Short description

Three poor Black kids in rural Mississippi reap the consequences of their family's cycle of abuse, addiction, and violence.

What's left behind the scenes

  • The film's title is borrowed from the song "Mississippi Goddam" by Nina Simone (1933–2003). Simone wrote the song in 1963 as a protest against racism, specifically the murder of Black civil rights activist Medgar Evers (1925–1963) in Mississippi and the bombing of a church in Alabama on September 15, 1963, which killed four children.
