Chev Chelios is a Los Angeles hit man who has been trying to leave his profession behind, partly for the sake of his girlfriend Eve. His past catches up with him when a rival criminal named Ricky Verona and his associates inject him with a poison while he sleeps. The substance will kill him unless his heart keeps beating fast enough to hold it back, so Chev learns he has roughly an hour to live. Staying still is not an option. He sets out across the city to find an antidote, go after the people responsible, and keep Eve out of harm's way, deliberately provoking fights, chases and other jolts of adrenaline whenever his body begins to slow.

Crank was released in 2006 and runs 88 minutes. It is the first feature directed by Brian Taylor and Mark Neveldine, who also wrote the screenplay, and the earliest entry in the chronological list of their films, ahead of Crank: High Voltage, Gamer, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance and later titles. Jason Statham plays Chev, with Amy Smart as Eve, Jose Pablo Cantillo as Verona, Efren Ramirez as Kaylo and Dwight Yoakam as Doc Miles. The film was made for about 12 million dollars and took roughly 43 million worldwide.

On IMDb it holds 6.9 out of 10 from around 277,000 votes, while on TMDB it has 6.7 from a much smaller voter base. A critics' rating of 6 out of 10 from 101 reviews places it close to the audience scores.
