A dying businessman, Peter Murdoch, sends a doctor to harvest blood orchids, whose nectar can regenerate tissue, and the serum is tested on a young anaconda before it ever reaches him. The snake grows to enormous size overnight, and it proves hard to kill: wounds close, and it keeps coming through gunfire and explosions. The herpetologist Amanda Hayes, who helped create the creature, leads a group of young scientists against Murdoch's armed men to secure the orchids before the reptile reaches either side.
Anacondas: Trail of Blood is a 2009 action-horror television film directed by Don E. FauntLeRoy, the fifth of six features he made in a run that began with Today You Die in 2005 and continued through Mercenary for Justice, Urban Justice and Anaconda 3: Offspring the year before. Crystal Allen returns as Amanda Hayes, with Linden Ashby, Danny Midwinter, Calin Stanciu, Ana Ularu and John Rhys-Davies as Murdoch. David C. Olson wrote the screenplay, and Alison Semenza produced the Romania- and United States-based production.
The film's reception sits low. On IMDb it holds a rating of 2.9 out of 10 from roughly 6,400 votes, and on TMDB it stands at 4.6 out of 10 from around 369 votes. Those scores point to a small, largely unfavorable audience response rather than a broad one.
