Son of Flubber

Son of Flubber continues the story of Ned Brainard, the absent-minded professor whose discovery of the super-elastic substance Flubber brought him trouble rather than fortune. Ned now works on a gas derived from Flubber that can influence the weather, while the Pentagon keeps his earlier invention classified and the tax authorities pursue him for money he has not received. His experiments draw the interest of businessman Alonzo P. Hawk, and a modification to a football uniform gives Ned a chance to demonstrate what his new creation can do. His wife, Betsy, grows suspicious of the attention he receives from an old college acquaintance.

The film is a Walt Disney Productions release directed by Robert Stevenson, the eighth of the fourteen features he directed in chronological order, following The Absent-Minded Professor and preceding Mary Poppins. Bill Walsh wrote the screenplay, and Walt Disney produced. Fred MacMurray and Nancy Olson reprise their roles as Ned and Betsy Brainard, with Keenan Wynn, Tommy Kirk, Ed Wynn and Charles Ruggles among the credited cast of forty-eight.

Released in January 1963, the comedy runs 100 minutes and returned $22 million worldwide. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.1 from around 3,400 votes, and on TMDB a rating of 6.1 from about 71 votes, indicating a modest but consistent reception across both audiences.
