Himala

In the isolated village of Cupang, a young orphan named Elsa begins reporting visions of the Virgin Mary. Word of the apparitions draws crowds, and when Elsa is said to heal the sick, the community's own beliefs and values come under strain. Tourists, pilgrims and patients make their way to the village, among them a documentary filmmaker, each hoping to witness or take part in the reported miracle.

Ishmael Bernal directed the film, working from a screenplay by Ricky Lee, with Bibsy N. Carballo and Bibsy M. Carballo producing for Experimental Cinema of the Philippines. Nora Aunor plays Elsa, heading a cast that includes Spanky Manikan, Vangie Labalan, Gigi Dueñas, Laura Centeno and Pen Medina. Bernal's filmography in the records lists this 1982 drama and Wating, released in 1994. Running 124 minutes, Himala is a Philippine drama and one of the director's two listed features.

On IMDb and TMDB, reception is limited in scale but positive: TMDB shows a rating of 8 out of 10 from 22 votes, a high average from a small sample of users. The film was released in December 1982, and its reputation rests on its place in Philippine cinema rather than on a large volume of online ratings.
