The End of the Affair

In post-war London, the novelist Maurice Bendrix runs into Henry Miles, the husband of the woman he once loved. Henry suspects his wife Sarah of being unfaithful, and the encounter pulls Bendrix back into the affair that Sarah ended abruptly two years earlier without explanation. Still consumed by jealousy and unanswered questions, he hires a private investigator to follow her, hoping to learn what really ended their relationship.

The film is directed by Neil Jordan, who also wrote the screenplay, with Stephen Woolley and Jordan producing. It was Jordan's ninth film as director and followed In Dreams the same year. Ralph Fiennes plays Bendrix, Julianne Moore plays Sarah, and Stephen Rea plays Henry, with James Bolam, Ian Hart and Jason Isaacs in supporting roles. The story is based on Graham Greene's novel.

Made for about 23 million dollars against a worldwide box office of roughly 11 million, the film did not recoup its budget in cinemas. On TMDB it holds a rating of 6.6 out of 10 from 284 votes, and its critics' rating stands at 6.6 out of 10 from 66 reviews, meaning audiences and critics responded to it in similar measure.
