Anatomy of Hell

Anatomy of Hell follows a woman who hires a gay man to stay with her for four nights in an isolated house so that he will watch her at times when she considers herself impossible to look at. The two are strangers to each other's desires, and their nights together become a confrontation in which desire and hostility build side by side. The film is based on Catherine Breillat's own novel, and Breillat wrote the screenplay as well as directing.

The film was released in 2004 and runs 77 minutes. It comes from Portugal and France, with Canal+, CNC, CB Films and Flach Film among the production companies, and Jean-François Lepetit producing. Amira Casar plays the woman and Rocco Siffredi plays the man; smaller roles include Alexandre Belin, Manuel Taglang, Jacques Monge and Claudio Carvalho. It sits between Fat Girl (2001) and Venice 70: Future Reloaded (2013) in Breillat's filmography, the sixth of the nine features listed for her.

On TMDB the film holds a rating of 4.8 out of 10 from 157 votes, which places it among the more divisive entries in Breillat's body of work. Its explicit treatment of sexuality and its deliberately enclosed two-person structure account for the limited audience response.
