The Butcher's Wife

The Butcher's Wife centres on Marina, a young woman with clairvoyant abilities who believes she has found the man she saw in her dreams. She marries Leo Lemke, a New York butcher, and returns with him to Greenwich Village, where her gift for foreseeing the future draws attention from the neighbourhood. Her readings bring comfort and guidance to the people around her, while Leo grows uneasy about the effect she has on others. A psychiatrist, Dr. Alex Tremor, sets out to investigate what he regards as her supposed powers, and finds himself increasingly drawn to her.

The film is a romantic comedy with fantasy elements, directed by Terry Hughes from a screenplay by Marjorie Schwartz and Ezra Litwak, and produced by Lauren Lloyd and Wallis Nicita for Paramount. Demi Moore plays Marina, with Jeff Daniels as Dr. Alex Tremor and George Dzundza as Leo Lemke. Mary Steenburgen, Frances McDormand and Margaret Colin appear in supporting roles.

Released in October 1991, the film runs 107 minutes and took in about 10 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.4 from roughly 9,300 votes, and on TMDB 5.7 from around 185 votes. A critics' rating of 4.6 from 18 reviews places it below the audience scores.
