Toaster and a group of sentient household appliances accompany their owner, Rob, to university where he studies veterinary medicine. The appliances form bonds with several animals under Rob's care, including a cat, a rat, and a monkey. When they discover that these animals are being targeted for shipment to a testing laboratory, the appliances team up to save their friends. Additionally, the group attempts to help Rob recover his academic work after it is deleted from a computer.
Directed by Robert C. Ramirez, this 1997 American animated comedy is the first of three films he directed, followed by The Brave Little Toaster Goes to Mars in 1998 and Joseph: King of Dreams in 2000. The screenplay was written by Willard Carroll and produced by Donald Kushner. The voice cast features Deanna Oliver as Toaster, Thurl Ravenscroft as Kirby, Roger Kabler as Radio, Eric Lloyd as Blanky, Chris Young as Rob, and Jessica Tuck as Chris, with a total of 27 credited cast members.
