Jessabelle is a horror thriller about a young woman named Jessie who returns to her father's dilapidated home in Louisiana to recover after a car accident leaves her unable to walk and takes the life of her fiancé. Confined to a wheelchair in the house where she grew up, she finds video recordings her late mother made for her years earlier, and their disturbing contents seem to foretell a fate she is now living through. At the same time, she becomes aware of a presence in the house tied to her mother's death, and the local man Preston offers her comfort as the events around her grow harder to explain. Kevin Greutert directed the film, his third feature after Saw VI and Saw 3D and the one preceding Visions in his filmography, from a screenplay by Robert Ben Garant. Sarah Snook plays Jessie, with Mark Webber, Joelle Carter, David Andrews, Chris Ellis and Ana de la Reguera among the cast. Jason Blum produced through Blumhouse Productions alongside Lionsgate and Principato-Young Entertainment, and the film was released in November 2014 with a runtime of ninety minutes. Made for about one million dollars, it took in roughly twenty-three million worldwide, a strong return for its budget. On TMDB it holds a 5.4 rating from 869 votes, while the critics' rating stands at 4.8 from 35 reviews, placing the two broadly in line with each other.
