Scooby-Doo and the Mystery Inc. gang travel to Egypt, where Velma is attending a ceremony unveiling a restored Sphinx and examining a hidden tomb said to belong to Cleopatra. Their visit turns into one of the gang's supernatural cases when an ancient pharaoh's curse is invoked: the Nile splits, the desert rises, and anyone who enters the tomb is said to turn to stone. An army of living mummies, and a villain named Amelia von Butch, stand between the friends and the truth. Joe Sichta directed the 2005 animated adventure, released between his Scooby-Doo! and the Loch Ness Monster and Chill Out, Scooby-Doo! in the series of direct-to-video Scooby-Doo films; he also co-wrote the screenplay with George Doty IV and Ed Scharlach and produced it with Margaret M. Dean, through Warner Bros. Animation and Hanna-Barbera Productions. The regular voice cast returns in its familiar roles: Casey Kasem as Shaggy, Frank Welker as Fred and Scooby-Doo, Mindy Cohn as Velma, and Grey DeLisle as Daphne, with Christine Baranski and Ajay Naidu voicing new characters. In that period of the long-running Scooby-Doo series the films mixed the classic mystery formula with larger fantasy threats, and this one leans on the Egyptian setting for its atmosphere. On IMDb it holds a 6.6 rating from roughly 5,500 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 7.4 from a smaller base of about 438 votes.
