The Station Agent

Finbar McBride, a man with dwarfism, has grown accustomed to being stared at, photographed and treated as an object of pity rather than a person. Trains are his refuge, and after the death of his only friend he inherits an abandoned railway depot in rural New Jersey, where he hopes to keep to himself. His plans are interrupted by Joe Oramas, who runs a hot dog stand nearby and talks constantly, and by Olivia Harris, an artist grieving the loss of her son and the end of her marriage. The three gradually form a bond that none of them was looking for.

Tom McCarthy wrote and directed the film, his first as director, ahead of The Visitor and Win Win. Peter Dinklage plays Finbar, with Patricia Clarkson as Olivia, Bobby Cannavale as Joe, Michelle Williams as Emily, Raven Goodwin as Cleo and Paul Benjamin as Henry Styles. It runs 88 minutes and took about 9 million dollars worldwide.

On IMDb it holds 7.6/10 from around 79,000 votes, while on TMDB it has 7.3/10 from roughly 838 votes, suggesting a well-regarded film with a modest but appreciative audience. A critics' rating of 8.1/10 from 158 reviews places it above both audience scores.
