Set after the events of the first film, this animated sequel follows the young Hawaiian girl Lilo and her alien friend Stitch as they settle into life as a family. Lilo sets out to compete in a hula contest, a dance her mother once excelled at, while Stitch begins behaving strangely. A flaw in his original design causes him to slip into sudden fits of destructive behavior, putting his bond with Lilo at risk and threatening his own survival. With the help of Nani, Jumba and Pleakley, the household must come together to help him, following the idea of ʻohana that holds the family together.
The film is directed by Tony Leondis and Michael LaBash, who also wrote the screenplay with Eddie Guzelian, and Christopher Chase produced it. It was the first feature either director worked on, ahead of Igor, Kung Fu Panda: Secrets of the Masters and The Emoji Movie for Leondis, and Curious George: Go West, Go Wild for LaBash. Chris Sanders returns as the voice of Stitch, alongside Dakota Fanning as Lilo, Tia Carrere as Nani, David Ogden Stiers as Dr. Jumba Jookiba, Kevin McDonald as Pleakley and Kunewa Mook as Kumu.
The film runs sixty-eight minutes. It holds a rating of 6.2 on IMDb from around twenty-one thousand votes and a 6.7 on TMDB from roughly sixteen hundred, a fairly consistent level of audience approval. A critics' score of 5.7 from twelve reviews places it slightly below those audience figures.
