Exhibition is a drama about a contemporary artist couple who are preparing to sell the home they have shared for twenty years. As a performer and an architect, the two characters experience the impending departure as a form of mourning. The story examines how the loss of their shared living and working space resurfaces internal anxieties and challenges the balance of their personal and creative relationship. The film focuses heavily on the modernist interior of their Kensington residence, treating the house as a central character through its sounds and visual layout.
Written and directed by Joanna Hogg, the film is the second project in her directorial career, following her 1986 work Caprice. The cast features Viv Albertine and Liam Gillick as the couple, with Tom Hiddleston and Harry Kershaw appearing as estate agents. Produced in the United Kingdom by companies including BBC Film and BFI, the movie has a runtime of 104 minutes. Audience reception is mixed, with a rating of 5.8/10 on IMDb based on 1,700 votes and a lower score of 4.9/10 on TMDB from 31 votes. These viewer scores are lower than the 7.3/10 rating provided by film critics.
