Short description

In 1960s Poland, young novitiate Anna is on the verge of taking her vows when she discovers a family secret dating back to the years of the German occupation.

Paweł Pawlikowski could not find an actress for the lead role, so he asked friends to discreetly film potential candidates on the street if they seemed suitable. One of his acquaintances spotted Agata Trzebuchowska in a Warsaw café and persuaded the girl to come to an audition.
