Cliff and Derek, two best friends, set off on a trip around the world with a camera, planning to record their experiences and share them online. In Paris, an encounter with a woman named Audrey leaves Derek changed: his body begins to reject food while gaining unnatural strength, and what looked like an illness turns into something far more dangerous. Stranded far from home, Cliff tries to work out what is happening to his friend before it takes him over completely, and the journey turns violent.
Afflicted is a Canadian found-footage horror thriller from 2014, written and directed by Derek Lee and Clif Prowse, who also play the two leads. It was the first feature either had directed; both returned to directing years later with The Last Stand of Ellen Cole. Baya Rehaz plays Audrey, with Edo van Breemen, Zachary Gray and Michael Gill in supporting roles. Zach Lipovsky and Chris Ferguson produced for Oddfellows Entertainment, with Téléfilm Canada among the backers. The film runs eighty-five minutes.
On IMDb it holds a 6.2 rating from roughly twenty-eight thousand votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.4 from a much smaller base of 655. A critics' rating of 6.6 from twenty-nine reviews places it slightly above the audience scores, a modest but consistent reception for a low-budget genre entry built around its first-person camera style.
