Miss Violence

On the day of her eleventh birthday, Angeliki steps off the family balcony and falls to her death, a smile on her face. The police and social services treat the death as a suicide, while her parents and siblings insist it was an accident and try to carry on as though nothing has happened. Their haste to move past the girl draws the attention of a welfare officer, whose visits begin to expose what lies beneath the surface of an apparently orderly household.

Miss Violence is a Greek drama directed by Alexandros Avranas, who wrote the screenplay with Kostas Peroulis and also produced it. Released in 2013, it was the first of the three features he has directed to date, followed by Dark Crimes and Quiet Life. Themis Panou plays the father, with Reni Pittaki as the mother and Eleni Roussinou, Sissy Toumasi, Kostas Antalopoulos and Constantinos Athanasiades among the cast.

Audiences have received the film moderately well: on IMDb it holds a rating of 7 out of 10 from around 12,000 votes, and on TMDB a rating of 6.9 out of 10 from some 625 votes. A critics' rating of 6.1 out of 10 from 25 reviews places it below both audience scores.
