House of Voices

Anna Jurin arrives at Saint Ange, a remote orphanage in the French Alps, to work as a servant while the last of the children are placed with families before the home is shut down. Concealing a pregnancy of her own, she meets Judith, the one girl nobody has taken in, and the two form a bond as Anna begins hearing children's voices and footsteps in the empty corridors. The film follows her attempts to work out what happened within the building's walls.

House of Voices is the first feature directed by Pascal Laugier, who also wrote the screenplay, and it precedes Martyrs, The Tall Man and Ghostland in his filmography. Virginie Ledoyen leads the cast as Anna, with Lou Doillon as Judith, Catriona MacColl as Francard, Dorina Lazăr as Helenka, Virginie Darmon as Mathilde and Jérôme Soufflet as Daniel. It was produced by Christophe Gans, Vlad Păunescu and Richard Grandpierre for Eskwad, France 3 Cinéma and Castel Film, shot in Romania and France, and runs 98 minutes.

The film took about 5 million dollars worldwide. Audiences have been measured at 5 out of 10 on IMDb across some 5,200 votes, and at 5.7 out of 10 on TMDB from roughly 197 votes; both suggest a modest, mixed response rather than a broad following.
