Lee Rock begins as an honest officer in the Hong Kong police force, but his need for money draws him step by step into corruption. The film follows his rise through a police establishment that has itself become deeply corrupt, and then his fall, tracing how a man who joined the force with principles ends up as part of the system he once refused to serve. Andy Lau plays the title character, with Sharla Cheung as Grace Pak, Chingmy Yau as Rose, Ng Man-tat as Piggy, Paul Chun as Sergeant Ngan Tung and Kwan Hoi-San as Sergeant Chan.
Lawrence Ah Mon directed the film, which he made in 1991, the year before the follow-up Lee Rock II. Man Keung Chan wrote the screenplay, and Jimmy Heung Wah-Sing, Wong Jing and Charles Heung produced it for Win's Movie Productions. The Hong Kong crime drama runs 127 minutes.
Audience response to the film is visibly divided between the two platforms where it is rated. On IMDb it holds 7 out of 10 across 941 votes, while on TMDB the average is 6.2 out of 10 from a much smaller group of 38 votes. The larger and stronger IMDb sample suggests a durable following for the film among viewers of Hong Kong crime cinema.
