Barbershop 2: Back in Business

Barbershop 2: Back in Business continues the story of Calvin Palmer, who runs the barbershop his family has owned for generations on Chicago's South Side. Having come through a struggle over the shop's ownership, Calvin now faces a different threat: a sleek branch of a national barbershop chain has opened across the street, undercutting his prices and drawing away customers. At the same time, redevelopment is pushing small, family-run businesses out of the neighborhood in favor of large franchises. Gina, a stylist from the beauty salon next door, keeps trying to muscle in on his customers. Around Calvin, the shop's barbers carry on with their own lives and arguments, and the place remains a gathering spot where the regulars talk about everything from politics to relationships.

Kevin Rodney Sullivan directed the film, which followed his 1998 feature How Stella Got Her Groove Back and came before Guess Who in 2005. Don D. Scott wrote the screenplay, and Alex Gartner, Robert Teitel and George Tillman Jr. produced it for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and Cube Vision. Ice Cube returns as Calvin, with Cedric the Entertainer as Eddie, Eve as Terri, Sean Patrick Thomas as Jimmy, Troy Garity as Isaac and Michael Ealy as Ricky among a credited cast of 75.

Made for about 30 million dollars, the film took in roughly 66 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds 5.7 out of 10 from around 17,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.1 from about 331 votes; a critics' rating of 6.5 from 125 reviews places it above the audience scores.
