The Krays

The Krays is a British crime drama about identical twins Ronald and Reggie Kray, raised in London's East End by their mother Violet. Ronnie's violent streak shapes the pair as they grow up, and Reggie follows, until the brothers dominate the East End club scene as feared underworld figures. Their partnership frays at the height of their power, giving older criminals an opening to move against them. The film is set in the London of the 1960s and draws on the real lives of the Kray twins.

Peter Medak directed, working from a screenplay by Philip Ridley. It was Medak's fifth feature in the chronological list of his films, arriving between Pinocchio and The Human Voice, and it came a decade after The Changeling. Real-life brothers Gary and Martin Kemp, of the band Spandau Ballet, play Ronald and Reggie. Billie Whitelaw appears as their mother Violet, with Tom Bell, Susan Fleetwood and Charlotte Cornwell among a credited cast of 65.

Released in April 1990, the film took about 2 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.6 out of 10 from roughly 9,600 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6 out of 10 from around 125 votes. The critics' rating is 6.4 out of 10 from 17 reviews, close to the audience scores.
