Lucky Them

Ellie Klug is a veteran rock journalist whose appetite for partying and for the company of younger musicians has worn thin with the editor of her magazine. Given one final chance to justify her place there, she is sent to find out what became of Matt Smith, a rock star who vanished years earlier and who was once her boyfriend. An amateur documentary maker named Charlie joins her on the road as she follows the leads.

Megan Griffiths directed the film, which followed her earlier feature Eden in the same year, from a screenplay by Huck Botko and Emily Wachtel. Toni Collette plays Ellie and Thomas Haden Church plays Charlie, with Oliver Platt, Ryan Eggold, Nina Arianda and Ahna O'Reilly among a credited cast of thirty-eight. The film runs 96 minutes and was produced in the United States by Tangerine Entertainment and Mymy Productions.

Released in 2013, the film received a critics' rating of 6.7 out of 10 from 40 reviews, higher than its audience scores of 6.1 out of 10 on IMDb from roughly 4,400 votes and 6 out of 10 on TMDB from a much smaller number of votes. That gap suggests reviewers responded to the film more warmly than general viewers did.
