Naked

Naked follows Johnny, an unemployed and homeless young man who leaves Manchester for London and turns up at the flat of his former girlfriend, Louise. Intelligent and articulate but bitter and contemptuous of nearly everyone he meets, he drifts through the city at night, passing among the poor, the damaged and the desperate, and often turning his sharp tongue on them. He sleeps with Louise's flatmate, Sophie, while the flat also attracts a wealthy and no less destructive young man named Jeremy. The film moves between Johnny's wanderings and the parallel lives of those around him.

Mike Leigh directed and wrote the film, and Simon Channing Williams produced it. It was released in 1993, stands among the earlier titles in Leigh's filmography and precedes Secrets & Lies, Career Girls and Topsy-Turvy. David Thewlis plays Johnny, with Lesley Sharp as Louise, Katrin Cartlidge as Sophie, Greg Cruttwell as Jeremy, Claire Skinner as Sandra and Peter Wight as Brian.

Naked was made in the United Kingdom by British Screen Productions, Channel Four Films and Thin Man Films, and took about 2 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds 7.7 out of 10 from roughly 48,000 votes, and on TMDB 7.3 out of 10 from several hundred. A critics' rating of 8.3 out of 10 from 59 reviews places it above both audience scores.
