Set in the near future, this science fiction story depicts a world where advancements in genetics, computing, and medicine have eliminated human suffering. Physical and emotional pain is instead transferred to specially engineered people called gatekeepers. The plot centers on two investigators from a special police unit who track crimes resulting from the use of this technology.
