Looker

Looker is a 1981 science fiction thriller written and directed by Michael Crichton. Albert Finney plays Dr. Larry Roberts, a Beverly Hills plastic surgeon who performs a series of small cosmetic procedures on a group of models. The operations go well, but the women begin dying in circumstances that look like accidents or suicides. When the police investigation turns toward him, Roberts starts looking into the deaths himself. His inquiries lead him to Digital Matrix, a high-tech company connected to the models and to the advertising business, and to its wealthy owner, John Reston, played by James Coburn. Susan Dey appears as Cindy Fairmont, one of the models, who stays close to Roberts as the danger grows.

The film was released in October 1981, running 94 minutes, and was produced by Warner Bros. Pictures with The Ladd Company. It was Crichton's fourth feature as director, following Westworld, Coma and The First Great Train Robbery, and it came before Runaway and Physical Evidence. Finney and Coburn head a cast of 36 credited performers, among them Leigh Taylor-Young, Dorian Harewood and Tim Rossovich. The film took in about 3 million dollars worldwide, a modest return for a studio release of its period.

On IMDb, viewers rate Looker 6.1 out of 10 from roughly 6,900 votes, and on TMDB it sits at 6.2 out of 10 from 138 votes, suggesting a small but fairly consistent audience response. A critics' rating of 4.8 out of 10 from 22 reviews places it noticeably below those viewer scores.
