Gunfight at the O.K. Corral

Wyatt Earp, a lawman working out of Dodge City, crosses paths with John "Doc" Holliday, a gambling dentist suffering from tuberculosis whose life he once saved. The two men form an uneasy friendship that draws them into a widening conflict with the Clanton family, a ruthless clan that holds the town of Tombstone in fear. Earp, backed by his brothers, joins Holliday in a showdown against Ike Clanton and his gang, a confrontation that leads to the gunfight at the O.K. Corral. The film is a dramatization of the events surrounding one of the most famous shootings of the American West.

John Sturges directed the picture, the third of eighteen features he made in chronological order, following Bad Day at Black Rock and preceding The Old Man and the Sea. Leon Uris wrote the screenplay, and Hal B. Wallis produced. Burt Lancaster plays Marshal Wyatt Earp and Kirk Douglas plays Doc Holliday, with Jo Van Fleet, Rhonda Fleming, John Ireland and Lyle Bettger among the supporting cast. Produced by Paramount with Wallis-Hazen and Hal Wallis Productions on a budget of two million dollars, it returned eleven million dollars worldwide.

On IMDb it holds a rating of 7.1 out of 10 from about nineteen thousand votes, with a score of 7 out of 10 on TMDB from roughly four hundred votes. A critics' rating of 7 out of 10 from fifteen reviews places it level with the TMDB audience score and slightly below the IMDb average.
