Body Melt

Body Melt is an Australian horror comedy set in the quiet suburb of Pebbles Court, where residents are unknowingly used as test subjects for a new substance distributed by a company called Vimuville. What begins as a supposed health product turns out to have horrifying effects, causing bodies to break down and leading to gruesome deaths. The police investigate the escalating mystery while the people of the neighbourhood remain unaware of what is being done to them.

The film was directed by Philip Brophy, who wrote the screenplay with Rod Bishop. It was produced by Bishop and Daniel Scharf, with backing from Australian production companies including Film Victoria, the Australian Film Commission and Beyond Films. The cast is led by Gerard Kennedy as Det. Sam Phillips, alongside Andrew Daddo, Ian Smith, Regina Gaigalas, Vincent Gil and Neil Foley, among 42 credited performers.

Released in 1994 and running 81 minutes, Body Melt mixes comedy, horror and science fiction. Its ratings sit in the middle range: on IMDb it holds 5.3 out of 10 from around 4,400 votes, and on TMDB it has 5.1 out of 10 from roughly 118 votes. Those figures suggest a modest but enduring following rather than broad acclaim.
