• Filming took place in Cape Town, South Africa.
• Singer Taylor Swift was offered the role of Rosemary a week after a concert in Los Angeles, which the filmmakers, as it turned out, attended.
• Dianna Agron auditioned for a role in this film.
• Meryl Streep was simultaneously filming Rob Marshall's "Into the Woods" (2014) alongside this film.
• Jeff Bridges, a producer and the performer of the role of the Giver, dreamed about this film for almost 20 years. He even filmed a version of the film with members of his own family.
• When Jeff Bridges acquired the rights to adapt the novel of the same name (1993) by Lois Lowry, he believed his father, Lloyd Bridges, would play the role of the Giver.
• One of the reasons Alexander Skarsgård agreed to the role in this project was the desire to appear in a film with Meryl Streep. It was only on set that he learned that Streep's character would be depicted as a hologram, so her scenes could be filmed anywhere, and not necessarily where he was filming.
