Short description
Charlie Kenton is a washed-up fighter who retired from the ring when robots took over the sport. After his robot is trashed, he reluctantly teams up with his estranged son to rebuild and train an unlikely contender.

What's left behind the scenes

  • The film is based on Richard Matheson's short story "Steel" (1956).
  • An Xbox 720 advertisement is shown on billboards during the main fight.
  • During their first encounter, Kevin Duran's character tells Jackman's character that he defeated him in the ring last time. This episode is a reference to the film 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine', in which Duran's and Jackman's characters also met in the ring.
  • Real humanoid robots were created for the film to accurately depict the mechanics of moving machines using motion capture technology. A total of 19 robots were made.
  • Jack from the Tekken series served as the prototype for the Zeus robot. Not only does he share a similar appearance, but Zeus also uses the same moves in the final battle.
  • The logo of Hewlett-Packard is displayed on the control panel of the Noisy Boy robot.
  • The film is based on Richard Matheson's short story "Steel" (1956).
  • In the film, robots can be controlled using a "shadow" function, where the robot mirrors the operator's movements. In the final fight, "Atom" mirrored Charlie's movements (which was correct), but during a jumping strike, the robot precisely replicated Charlie's move, which could not have happened in that situation.
