Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones follows Jesse, a seventeen-year-old living in Oxnard, California, who becomes curious about strange noises and a recent killing in the apartment of a neighbor. He and his friends begin filming as they investigate, and what they find includes occult objects, videotapes and a photograph of Jesse himself. Soon afterward Jesse wakes from a nightmare with a bite on his arm and begins to develop abilities beyond those of an ordinary person. Fearing what is happening to him, his friends seek help from Ali, whose family went through something similar in an earlier chapter of the series.
The film is a spin-off of the Paranormal Activity franchise, set among a Latino family and community, and it was released in 2014. Christopher Landon directed and wrote the screenplay; Jason Blum and Oren Peli produced. Andrew Jacobs plays Jesse, with Jorge Diaz, Gabrielle Walsh, Renée Victor, Carlos Pratts and Noemi Gonzalez among the cast of twenty credited performers. It was Landon's first feature as director, ahead of Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse, the two Happy Death Day films, Freaky, We Have a Ghost and Drop.
Made for about 5 million dollars, it took in roughly 91 million worldwide, a strong return on its budget. On IMDb it holds 5.1 out of 10 from around 48,000 votes, and on TMDB 5.4 out of 10 from about 1,600 votes, indicating a modest audience response.
