Torment follows newlyweds Cory and Sarah Morgan, who take Cory's seven-year-old son Liam to a rented country house hoping for quiet time together as a family. Their stay goes wrong when Liam disappears and appears to have run off. What begins as a tense search turns into something far worse, as the couple discovers that strangers have been living in the house and have taken the boy for themselves.
The Canadian production was directed by Jordan Barker, his second feature after The Marsh in 2006, from a screenplay by Thomas Pound and Michael Foster. Barker also produced alongside Borga Dorter. Katharine Isabelle plays Sarah, Robin Dunne plays Cory, and Peter DaCunha plays Liam, with Stephen McHattie, Noah Dalton Danby and Amy Forsyth in supporting roles.
Released in October 2013, the film runs eighty-two minutes and belongs to the horror and thriller genres. Audience response has been modest: on IMDb it holds a rating of 4.7 from roughly 3,200 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 4.8 from around 108 votes. The small vote counts and low scores indicate a limited reach rather than a broad following, though the two audience ratings are closely aligned.
