Season of the Witch

Two knights who fought in the Crusades return to a Europe devastated by the Black Death. They are captured as deserters, and to win their freedom they must agree to escort a young woman accused of witchcraft to a distant abbey. There, monks intend to perform a ritual meant to end the plague. The knights doubt that the girl is responsible for the pestilence, and the journey with their captive proves more dangerous than expected, with threats awaiting them along the way.

Season of the Witch was released in 2011 and runs 95 minutes. It is an action adventure fantasy picture from the United States, made by Atlas Entertainment, Relativity Media, Rogue Pictures and Mandate International. Dominic Sena directed it, working from a screenplay by Bragi F. Schut. It was his fifth feature, following Kalifornia, Gone in Sixty Seconds, Swordfish and Whiteout. Nicolas Cage plays Behman and Ron Perlman plays Felson; Stephen Campbell Moore, Stephen Graham, Ulrich Thomsen and Claire Foy are also in the cast, which numbers 24 credited performers supported by 64 credited crew members.

Produced on a budget of 40 million dollars, the film took in about 92 million dollars worldwide, so it more than doubled its cost at the box office. Audience response was modest: on IMDb it holds 5.4 out of 10 from over 97,000 votes, and on TMDB 5.5 out of 10 from more than 2,700 votes. A film critics' rating of 3.7 out of 10 from 123 reviews places critical opinion below the audience scores.
