Hot Tub Time Machine

Four friends in their forties have drifted into disappointing adulthood. Adam has been dumped again, Nick is dominated by his wife and unhappy at work, Lou's partying days are behind him, and Adam's nephew Jacob rarely leaves the basement. After Lou survives a drunken incident in his garage, the group decides to revisit the ski resort where they once spent their most memorable weekend. A night of heavy drinking in the hotel hot tub sends them back to 1986, and they come to see the trip as a chance to change how their lives turned out.

Steve Pink directed the film, his second feature after Accepted. Sean Anders, John Morris and Josh Heald wrote the screenplay, and John Cusack, who plays Adam, produced alongside Matt Moore and Grace Loh. Craig Robinson, Rob Corddry and Clark Duke appear as Nick, Lou and Jacob, with Sebastian Stan as Blaine and Chevy Chase as a repairman. The production cost about 36 million dollars and returned roughly 65 million worldwide, a modest result against its budget.

Audience response was middling: on IMDb it holds 6.4/10 from around 198,000 votes, and on TMDB 6/10 from 2,830 votes. A critics' rating of 6.3/10 from 210 reviews places professional opinion close to the audience scores. Pink later returned to the characters with Hot Tub Time Machine 2, released in 2015.
