Inkheart

Mortimer "Mo" Folchart works as a book restorer and shares a love of reading with his twelve-year-old daughter Meggie. He also carries a rare gift: when he reads aloud, characters and objects from a story can cross over into the real world. The ability comes at a cost, since something or someone from reality is pulled back into the book in exchange. Years earlier, this exchange cost Mo his wife, Resa, who vanished into the world of a novel called Inkheart at the court of the villain Capricorn.

When Mo finally finds another copy of that book, he sets out to recover Resa, and Meggie insists on helping him. Their search brings them to Meggie's aunt Elinor and her library, while Capricorn's associates close in, among them the fire-eater Dustfinger, who wants his own passage home.

Iain Softley directed the film, his fifth feature after Backbeat, Hackers, K-PAX and The Skeleton Key. David Lindsay-Abaire wrote the screenplay, and Cornelia Funke, author of the novel the film adapts, is among the producers. Brendan Fraser plays Mo, with Paul Bettany, Helen Mirren, Jim Broadbent, Andy Serkis and Sienna Guillory in supporting roles. Made for about 60 million dollars, it returned roughly 63 million worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.1 from 85,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.3 from 2,329 votes.
