The Purge: Anarchy

The Purge: Anarchy takes place in an America where, for one night each year, all crime is legal for twelve hours. Police and hospitals are unavailable, and citizens are left to fend for themselves. Sergeant Leo, a man who lost his son, heads out into the night intending to carry out a personal revenge. Instead, he ends up protecting a group of strangers: a couple whose car has broken down and a mother and daughter who have been targeted.

James DeMonaco wrote and directed the film, the second he directed, after The Purge (2013) and before The Purge: Election Year (2016) and The Home (2025). The cast includes Frank Grillo as the Sergeant, Carmen Ejogo as Eva Sanchez, Zach Gilford as Shane, Michael Kenneth Williams as Carmelo, Kiele Sanchez as Liz and Zoë Soul as Cali, with 45 credited cast members and 160 credited crew.

Produced by Michael Bay, Andrew Form and Bradley Fuller, the film was made for 9 million USD and took 112 million USD worldwide, a strong return on its budget. On IMDb it holds 6.4/10 from 172,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.6/10 from 6,817 votes. The critics' rating stands at 5.5/10 from 139 reviews, placing it below the audience scores.
