Darling

Darling follows Diana Scott, a young model and struggling actress in early 1960s London who uses her relationships with several men to climb toward fame and wealth. Insecure and easily bored, she drifts through affairs as her career advances, becoming involved with a well-known journalist, then a cynical businessman, and eventually marrying an Italian prince. The position she has chased turns out to be less free than she expected.

John Schlesinger directed the film, his second feature after Billy Liar, from a screenplay by Frederic Raphael. Joseph Janni produced. Julie Christie plays Diana, with Dirk Bogarde, Laurence Harvey, José Luis de Vilallonga, Roland Curram and Basil Henson among the credited cast of 75.

Released in August 1965, the British drama runs 128 minutes. On IMDb it holds 7 out of 10 from around 8,600 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.7 out of 10 from 155 votes. A critics' rating of 7.7 out of 10 from 22 reviews places it somewhat above the audience scores. The film sits between Schlesinger's early sixties work and the later features that followed, including Midnight Cowboy, Sunday Bloody Sunday and Marathon Man.
