A woman from Mars lands her flying saucer near a remote Scottish inn, accompanied by a menacing robot and armed with a laser gun. She has come to Earth on a mission for her dying matriarchal society, which has done away with its males and now needs human men to continue its species. Inside the inn, eight people find themselves cut off and at her mercy: among them a journalist, a disillusioned young woman, a scientist, an escaped convict and the woman who runs the place. Their evening turns into a confrontation with an visitor whose plans extend well beyond a simple stop for repairs.
Devil Girl from Mars was released in 1954 and runs 77 minutes. It is a British production from Danziger Productions Ltd., directed by David MacDonald, whose filmography also includes This England, Christopher Columbus and, later, The Moonraker. James Eastwood wrote the screenplay, and Edward J. and Harry Lee Danziger produced. Patricia Laffan plays the Martian Nyah, with Hugh McDermott as Michael Carter, Hazel Court as Ellen Prestwick, Joseph Tomelty as Prof. Arnold Hennessy, Adrienne Corri as Doris and Peter Reynolds as Robert Justin, also known as Albert Simpson.
The film sits among the science fiction and horror releases of its era. Its ratings are modest on both tracked platforms: 5 out of 10 on IMDb from around 2,500 votes, and 5.2 out of 10 on TMDB from a much smaller sample of around 56 votes.
