Short description
Mikael Blomkvist, publisher of Millennium magazine, has made his living exposing the crooked and corrupt practices of establishment Swedish figures. So when a young journalist approaches him with a meticulously researched thesis about sex trafficking in Sweden and those in high office who abuse underage girls, Blomkvist immediately throws himself into the investigation.

What's left behind the scenes

  • At the time he was offered to play himself, Paolo Roberto didn't even know he was a character in the novel of the same name (2006).
  • Part of the film's plot revolves around two journalists who are not married to each other but live together. Dag Svensson and Mia Bergman (Johansson in the English versions of the novel) die as a result of their work. Blomkvist and others are concerned with ethical questions – what to do with their journalistic investigations, and whether to end them (and if so, how). This echoes the life and tragic death of Stieg Larsson (1954-2004), who lived unmarried with his partner Eva Gabrielsson. Like Svensson/Johansson and Bergman, Larsson and Gabrielsson received threats. Larsson's 'Millennium' series remained unfinished due to disputes between the Larsson and Gabrielsson families and arguments over the inheritance.
