Short description
A grieving father in a downward spiral stumbles across a box of his recently deceased son's demo tapes and lyrics. Shocked by the discovery of this unknown talent, he forms a band in the hope of finding some catharsis.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Billy Crudup sings and plays the guitar himself. The actor learned to play the guitar while filming the musical comedy "Almost Famous" (Cameron Crowe, 2000). He enjoyed it so much that now in his free time he happily picks up the guitar.
  • Sam's boat is moored to the shore on Lake Hefner in Oklahoma City. Later, however, the group performs in the city of Guthrie, which is located approximately 50 kilometers north of Oklahoma City.
  • The last film in the credits of which Suzanne Krall is mentioned. She passed away at the age of 47 on July 27, 2013.
  • Filming took place on the campus of the University of Central Oklahoma in the city of Edmond, which is called "University of the Central Plains" in the film. In one shot, a banner with the abbreviation UCO, i.e., University of Central Oklahoma, is visible.
  • When Brent tries to reach Sam by phone, the news is on television. The announcers work for KFOR – a television station in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
  • Josh and Sam were supposed to meet at Belle's bar, and Sam was waiting for his son at Belle Isle Brewery in Oklahoma City. Later, Sam ordered a double whiskey at Blue Belle bar in Guthrie. At one time, Tom Mix (1880-1940), an actor from the silent film era of Westerns, worked as a bartender at Blue Belle.
  • The shooting on campus occurred several kilometers from the place where, on August 20, 1986, Patrick Henry Sherrill, a U.S. Postal Service employee, killed 14 coworkers and wounded another 6 with two pistols and a revolver while at work, before taking his own life with a gunshot to the head.
  • A memorial plaque at the site of the tragedy in the library lists the names of 6 victims. These are the names of the film crew members – Sarah Clark (from a local casting agency), James Naughton and Lance Gill (set decoration specialists), Chris Holick (from the props department), Bijan Nazari (art department), and Jennifer Herbel (sales department).
  • Filming took place on the campus of the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond, which is referred to as "Central Plains University" in the film. A banner with the abbreviation UCO, i.e., University of Central Oklahoma, is visible in one shot.
