Fish Tank

Fish Tank centers on Mia, a fifteen-year-old living in Britain with her mother and younger sister. Expelled from school and increasingly at odds with those around her, she pours much of her energy into hip hop dancing. Her life shifts when her mother brings home a new boyfriend, Connor, who moves in with the family. Mia is drawn to the attention he gives her, and his presence raises questions about what she wants from him and from her own future.

The film was directed by Andrea Arnold, who also wrote the screenplay, and it stands as the second of the five features she has directed to date, following Red Road and preceding Wuthering Heights, American Honey and Bird. Katie Jarvis plays Mia, with Michael Fassbender as Connor, Kierston Wareing as her mother Joanne, Rebecca Griffiths as her sister Tyler, Harry Treadaway as Billy and Jason Maza as Billy's brother.

Made for about 3 million dollars, it took roughly 6 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds a rating of 7.3 from around 68,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.9 from just under a thousand votes, a narrower sample that points to a more divided response there.
