Every Thing Will Be Fine centres on Tomas Eldan, a writer whose life changes after a traffic accident on a snowy road. Driving after an argument with his partner, he strikes a young boy, who dies. The boy's mother, Kate, and his older brother are drawn into the aftermath, and Tomas is left carrying the weight of what happened. His relationship with his girlfriend Sara breaks down, and he eventually turns the experience into writing. Years later, those touched by the accident are still living with its consequences, and the story follows how each of them copes.
Wim Wenders directed the film, the seventeenth of the twenty-two features listed for him in chronological order, following The Salt of the Earth and preceding Submergence. Bjørn Olaf Johannessen wrote the screenplay, and Gian-Piero Ringel produced. James Franco plays Tomas, with Rachel McAdams as Sara, Charlotte Gainsbourg as Kate, Marie-Josée Croze as Ann, Peter Stormare as an editor and Patrick Bauchau as Tomas's father. The production was a European and Canadian co-production made for about 12 million USD.
The film was released in April 2015 and runs 118 minutes. Reception was modest across the board: it holds 5.5 out of 10 on IMDb from roughly 6,700 votes and 5.4 out of 10 on TMDB from 236 votes. A critics' rating of 4.8 out of 10, drawn from 40 reviews, sits slightly below those audience scores, suggesting the film found limited favour with either group.
