Georgekutty is a cable television operator living a comfortable life with his wife Rani and their daughters in Kerala. The family's routine is shattered when a boy secretly films one of the girls with a hidden camera, and the discovery that he is the son of a senior police officer turns a private crisis into a confrontation with the authorities. Georgekutty must act to protect his household while an investigation closes in around them.
Jeethu Joseph wrote and directed this 2013 Malayalam-language crime drama, the first film he made in the series he later continued with Drishyam 2 and Drishyam 3. Mohanlal plays Georgekutty, with Meena as Rani, Asha Sarath as IG Geetha Prabhakar, Kalabhavan Shajon as Constable Sahadevan, and Ansiba Hassan and Esther Anil as the daughters. Antony Perumbavoor produced it through Aashirvad Cinemas.
The film runs 164 minutes and earned roughly 12 million dollars worldwide, a strong return for a Malayalam production of its time. On IMDb it holds 8.4 out of 10 across about 48,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 7.5 from roughly 235 votes. The wide gap in vote volume points to a large, engaged audience that rates the film highly and has kept returning to it in the years since release.
