Iron Will follows a young man named Will Stoneman who, after his father's death, takes on responsibility for his mother and their land. Facing financial hardship, he enters a long-distance dogsled race, drawn by the prize money his family needs. The race demands days of travel through severe weather and difficult terrain, and Will must rely on his own resolve to see it through.
The film was directed by Charles Haid, whose only other credited feature as director is Cooperstown, released the year before. John Michael Hayes, Jeff Arch and Djordje Milicevic wrote the screenplay, and the cast includes Mackenzie Astin as Will, alongside Kevin Spacey, Brian Cox, David Ogden Stiers, August Schellenberg and Rex Linn. It was produced by Walt Disney Pictures and runs 108 minutes.
Released in January 1994, Iron Will took in about 21 million dollars worldwide. On TMDB it holds a rating of 6.7 out of 10 from roughly 340 votes, while a critics' rating stands at 6.2 out of 10 from 15 reviews, so audiences and critics rated it fairly closely. The story is set in the early twentieth century and was inspired by a real dogsled race.
