Saint Ralph

Saint Ralph is a Canadian comedy-drama set in Hamilton, Ontario, in 1954. Its central character is Ralph Walker, a teenage student at an all-boys Catholic school whose father has died and whose mother lies in a coma. Told that only a miracle can save her, Ralph, a boy with no athletic reputation, becomes convinced he can produce one by winning the Boston Marathon. The school's principal, Father Fitzpatrick, sees him mainly as a troublemaker, but a younger priest and former runner, Father George Hibbert, takes him on as a coach and begins to believe in the boy's purpose. Much of the film follows Ralph's training and his stubborn effort to reach a race far beyond his apparent abilities.

Michael McGowan wrote and directed the film, his first feature, ahead of One Week and Left Coast. Adam Butcher plays Ralph, with Campbell Scott as Father Hibbert, alongside Tamara Hope, Michael Kanev and Keir Gilchrist. Teza Lawrence, Andrea Mann and Seaton McLean produced the 95-minute film, made by Alliance Atlantis with Running Miracles Productions and Amaze Film + Television on a budget of about 6 million dollars.

On IMDb, viewers rate it 7.4 out of 10 from roughly 6,600 votes, while on TMDB it holds 7 out of 10 from a much smaller group of 85 votes. A critics' score of 6.4 out of 10 from 66 reviews places it somewhat below the audience assessment.
