The Bible: In the Beginning...

The Bible: In the Beginning... recounts the opening section of the Book of Genesis, from the creation of the world through the story of Abraham. Adam and Eve live in the Garden of Eden until they give in to temptation and are sent away. Their son Cain kills his brother Abel. As humanity grows corrupt, God sends a flood, and Noah builds an ark to save his family and the world's animals. Later, God calls Abraham to leave for Canaan and makes a covenant with him, testing his faith along the way.

John Huston directed and appears as Noah, working from a screenplay by Christopher Fry. Produced by Dino De Laurentiis, the film was a large international production involving 20th Century Fox, Seven Arts Productions and Italian and Swiss partners. It was the twelfth of the twenty-two films Huston directed, following The Night of the Iguana and preceding Casino Royale. The cast includes Michael Parks as Adam, Ulla Bergryd as Eve, Richard Harris as Cain, Stephen Boyd as Nimrod and George C. Scott as Abraham, among 39 credited performers and 67 credited crew members.

Released in September 1966, the film runs 175 minutes and cost about 17 million dollars, a substantial sum at the time. Its worldwide gross of roughly 35 million dollars gave it a solid return. On IMDb it holds a 6.2 rating from about 6,900 votes, while on TMDB it has a 7.3 from around 303 votes, indicating warmer responses from that audience.
