Louise Harrington is a divorced woman approaching forty who works in the admissions office at Columbia University. Her life is orderly but weighed down by regret, particularly over a high school boyfriend who died twenty years earlier. When a young applicant named F. Scott Feinstadt arrives on campus, he resembles that lost love in name and appearance, and Louise finds herself drawn into a relationship with him. The age difference and the disapproval of those around her complicate the affair, as does the question of what the young man actually wants from her.

P.S. was released in 2004 and runs 97 minutes. It is a drama and romance set in the United States, produced by Newmarket Films, Hart-Sharp Entertainment and Cinetic Media. Dylan Kidd directed and co-wrote the screenplay with Helen Schulman, working from the novel by Schulman. It is the first of the two films Kidd has directed, followed by Get a Job in 2016. Laura Linney plays Louise, with Gabriel Byrne as Peter Harrington, Lois Smith as Ellie Silverstein, Paul Rudd as Sammy Silverstein and Topher Grace as F. Scott Feinstadt.
