Trespass Against Us centres on the Cutler family, a clan of travelling outlaws who have lived for generations on the fringes of the law in the English countryside. They poach, they raid country houses and they treat the police as a source of entertainment. Colby, the family's patriarch, raised his son Chad to answer to no authority, and expects his grandchildren to grow up the same way. Chad, however, has begun to want something steadier for his own children, and finds himself caught between his father's ways and the life he would like them to have. The pressure builds as the police close in and the family's independence becomes harder to hold on to.
The film was released in 2016 and runs 99 minutes. It is directed by Adam Smith, working from a screenplay by Alastair Siddons, and belongs to the crime drama tradition of British social realism. Michael Fassbender plays Chad and Brendan Gleeson plays Colby, with Lyndsey Marshal, Rory Kinnear, Sean Harris and Kingsley Ben-Adir among the supporting cast. On TMDB it holds a rating of 5.8 out of 10 from 355 votes, which suggests a modest, mixed response rather than a broad consensus.
