Shooting Fish

Shooting Fish follows two young orphans in London who survive by running scams, aiming to collect enough money to buy the country house they never had as children. Dylan is the charming American talker, while Jez is the shy British computer expert. Their schemes target wealthy marks, and the pair have already amassed a substantial sum when Georgie, a medical student from a declining upper-class family, enters their lives. She becomes involved in their operation for reasons of her own, and both men fall for her, complicating the partnership. The film is a British comedy that moves between crime caper and romance.

Stefan Schwartz directed and co-wrote the screenplay with Richard Holmes. It was the first of the two features he has directed, preceding The Best Man in 2005. Dan Futterman plays Dylan, Stuart Townsend plays Jez and Kate Beckinsale plays Georgie, with a credited cast of 39. Made for about 3 million dollars, it is a modestly scaled production in the tradition of British con-artist comedies.
