Sold

Based on real stories, this drama follows Lakshmi, a thirteen-year-old girl living with her family in the mountains of Nepal. After monsoons destroy their crops, her father arranges for her to find work in the city to support the household. A stranger promises her a position as a maid, leading Lakshmi to travel to India. Upon arriving at a place called Happiness House, she discovers she has been sold into prostitution and must eventually find the courage to escape.

The film was directed by Jeffrey D. Brown, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Joseph Kwong. The cast features Gillian Anderson as Sophia, David Arquette as Sam, Seema Biswas as Amma, Parambrata Chatterjee as Vikram, Tillotama Shome as Bimla, and Priyanka Bose as Monica. Produced by Jane Charles through Jaya International, the movie has a runtime of 97 minutes.
