Above Suspicion

Set in the months before the Second World War, Above Suspicion follows Richard Myles, an American professor teaching at Oxford, and his new wife Frances, who are recruited by British intelligence while preparing for a honeymoon trip through Europe. What begins as an adventure they find amusing turns serious as the couple travel as tourists toward Germany and German-occupied Austria, where Richard is to assess information about a secret Nazi weapon. Their cover becomes increasingly difficult to maintain, and a figure from Richard's past proves not to be what he seems.

The film was directed by Richard Thorpe, released by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in 1943 and running ninety minutes. It is one of several features Thorpe made in the early 1940s, arriving between Tarzan Escapes and Cry 'Havoc' in his filmography. Joan Crawford and Fred MacMurray play the married couple at the centre of the story, with Basil Rathbone, Conrad Veidt and Reginald Owen among the supporting cast. Melville Baker, Patricia Coleman and Keith Winter wrote the screenplay, and Victor Saville produced.
